Momi's Malmutes
The Alaskan Malamute is a valiant,
smart and gorgeous dog. They are physically strong and require exercise each
day. They are high-maintenance and are not for everyone. However, if you are
interested in the rescue program please visit
www.WAMAL.com for
additional information.
Lishka came to me through the amazing
work of
Washington
Malamute Rescue and the help of Cindy Neely, president of WAMAL and Les
Luray of Wind River Shelter of Hailey, Idaho in June 1999. The work they do
for this breed is admirable. Lishka was a gift of beauty, laughter and
strength in my life. We bonded through long walks and hikes on the forest
and river trails of Ski Hill, Icicle Gorge and Blackbird
Island. She became my Realtor Dog and loved to go to work and on
adventures. When she was diagnosed with bone cancer in mid March of 2004 my
life was shattered. She was so young! We did the amputation. She recovered
quickly and soon after the surgery was timberbashing up ridges as she
always had done. In August I had her put to sleep, as the cancer had moved
to her lungs. She was valiant through it all. She was a breathtaking and
gentle beauty. She was one of the greatest gifts of my life. I carry her in
my heart always

In order to honor the deep
connection Lishka and I shared for five years, I went back to Cindy and
WAMAL right
away. I knew the best way to honor LIshka was to bring home another
malamute in need of a forever home. I was led to sweet Mahina who was a
special needs girl. She came to live with me,
shaved almost to the skin, in August 2004. She is thriving in the love of
family and friends. Her coat is growing full and fluffy. She is more
beautiful every day. Mahina is learning to love the baby kitties that live
here. Life is good for all of us. Love and laughter live here...chaos
visits every now and again. |
